New Rig, New Adventures

We were so excited to take our new rig, a 25’ Airstream International Signature Series, out on the road last fall that we took the first opportunity that we had to hit the open road. Mike had a conference in the Ozark’s…and that worked well for us as the fall color was beautiful and we both were looking forward to the opportunity to figure everything out on our trailer.

We left for the Ozark’s with a cute little spot reserved at a KOA and were looking forward to the time away together! The weather was beautiful, the drive uneventful (except for one aggressive driver we ran into on the way to Kansas City) and we were on our way! It surprisingly takes a lot of time and energy figuring out a new rig. We had a solid process and routine with our Escapod set up that became tried and true. This rig was completely different, more complicated, but provided so much ease at the same time. We quickly learned that staying out longer, was much easier in the Airstream. With some of the amenities now provided, that we were previously missing (shower/bathroom and indoor kitchen, as well as a place inside that we could both work during the day), the time flew by and we immediately understood that long-term travel was now accessible to us.

While the Ozark’s provided a break from out routine in Lincoln, the summer season was clearly over and the area had lost it’s “shine” a bit in the fall season. We could easily see that in summer, this was the hot spot to be, in October…not so much. It was quiet, and peaceful. And, as always, we found the local best Mexican restaurants for a weekday evening meal and a few margaritas.

We took our mountain bikes, and got in over our head with a trail not far from where we were camping. Luckily, a younger couple saw us out on the trail land told us after we finished riding that they followed not far behind us to make sure that we were okay. (It’s good to have people looking out for us!) They were full-time campers who stopped and chatted for a bit about their own rig, their journey, and their travel plans for the rest of the year.

We wrapped up the week with a trip to Silver Dollar City. We are roller coaster lovers and this park did not dissappoint. We secured our fast passes and took off for a day of ups and downs, twists and turns, and thrills. We really do love theme park, and it had been ages since I’d been here, and well worth the money.

We left the Ozarks feeling thankful that we had an opportunity to begin to learn how to best travel in the Airstream. Although it still felt new and unfamiliar to us, we felt right at home and proud that we had taken this big step towards us traveling more often, and for longer.
