“30”

“Where you go, I go.”-Mike & Kathy, June 2024

As our 30th wedding anniversary approached, we wanted to be certain to spend it at a place that felt like us. Utah was just the place for us to land, and we were going to take the whole week to revisit places that we love, and discover a few new adventures along the way.

Our trip started out in Dillon, Colorado. Prospector Campground right on the Dillon Reservoir gave us the perfect view of the mountains, a short walk to the lake to fish, and friendly neighbors who played the guitar around the campfire at night while we drifted off to sleep. The few days spent in the mountains gave us the opportunity to get our camper back on the road, our routine back in order, and more than anything a chance to rest from a busy work schedule before we tackled the rest of the trip.

Following Dillon, we beelined straight to Moab, Utah. Our favorite stop in Utah always, Moab holds a special place in our hearts. It’s quaint, filled with character, and we feel at home after spending so much time there over the past few years. This trip was our first attempt to tackle Arches National Park. What an amazing experience to hike to Delicate Arch on our anniversary. Prettier in person, and the hike much more challenging than expected, the whole experience was the perfect way to spend the day. We also visited Balanced Rock and Double Arch throughout the day and ended our anniversary with a campsite dinner and an early evening as the mosquitos found us and wanted to spend the evening with us as well!

Following Moab, we made the long trip (that day due to rainy weather and routing that took us off the beaten path) to Kodachrome State Park. One of our favoriate stops ever, the state park offered beautiful views of the back of Bryce Canyon, a few red rock formations, the best campground shower we’ve ever experienced, and a quite place to spend a few days. Bryce Canyon is really one of our absolute favorites, so we spend the day hiking Navaho Loop and still amazed of how deeply this park and these views of the canyon affect the two of us.

After Kodachrome, we sped back to Colorado for a night’s stay at James Robb Campground/state park in Fruita, CO. It is a little gem that we’ve gone back to time and time again. It’s the perfect stop between Utah and before you go through the mountains back to Denver and home. Extreme weather always seems to find us at this campground. We’ve had 100+ degree weather and this time pouring rain all night. I’m hopeful that we can visit again and that the weather this time will be just right to enjoy the views and the city of Fruita.

Thirty years is special, and this was a special trip to mark the occasion for us. But, truly, each day is special for us. We don’t wait for the important days to find adventure, to seek challenge, and work to be more present in all of our experiences along the way.

Happy anniversary to us….and cheers to many more!!!
