Sundance

There a few places that you visit where you immediately feel a sense of home. Sundance is one of those places for us and has been for the last few years. As many times as we try to talk ourselves into going somewhere different, to see something new, this special spot always wins. Established in 1969 by Robert Redford, the property is a mix of cool meets comfortable. His vision was to “To build upon a legacy as a steward of this mountain drawing inspiration from art nature, and humanity to provide a place of discovery.” And, the mission to “Foster experiences that delight the senses, tell a story, feed the soul, and inspire stewardship.” We have special memories here, and we’ll return this next weekend to put an end-cap our month of somewhat chaotic travel.

“It’s just impossible to be here and not stop and take a deep breath and appreciate one man’s vision seen to fruition in such a personal and beautiful way.”

I like details and to plan. This month, so much of our planning went sideways and we found ourselves out of luck with the weather in New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah. Our goal was always to end our trip at Sundance, Utah for a few days, and when we made the trek back home after calling the trip, Mike surprised me with this next weekend of skiing at Sundance. There was one thing I wanted for my birthday…nachos at the top of the mountain in Bear Claw Cabin , skiing, and drinks at The Owl Bar. We will accomplish that goal, and nachos will never taste as good as they will this Saturday.

I’m thankful for the trips that go as planned, and I’m even more thankful for the trips that teach us that we can never be truly prepared for life. It will come at you as fast as you can imagine, and we always have two choices…to go with the flow, or to stand still. We are moving forward with our plans, and are determined to stand at the top of this mountain together.
